Job Description

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 700 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for a Finance Officer (Accountant) in Kyiv.

About the job

You will be part of the accounting unit in the Finance department, ensuring compliance with Ukrainian legislation and reporting requirements. You involves supporting and implementing accounting policies and standard operating procedures, providing on-the-job support, and building capacity of the project and support staff. Additionally, You will provide technical support to Accountants at Area and Base offices across Ukraine.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Accounting and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with the procedure for maintaining travel documents and checking the relevance of reports. Including tracking and maintenance of advances to employees.
  • Maintaining, entering and updating “BAF” software, makes changes to the reference and regulatory information used in the processing of data.
  • Support the drafting of contracts, work completion with counterparties.
  • Support the development of an Accounting policy and compliance tools.
  • Maintain a checklist of the minimum supporting documents required to comply with Ukrainian legislation, updating it as new activities are identified.
  • Ensure timely delivery of accounting reports to fiscal bodies and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant statutory and financial obligations, including taxes.
  • Ensure thorough and effective accounting and compliance management, liaising with relevant managers on key financial issues, including compliance, delays, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure day-to-day accounting functions, including payments verifications, entries into BAF and accounts management and reconciliations monthly.
  • Hold monthly meetings with project managers to discuss key variances, identify reasons, and plan any necessary remedial actions.
  • Conduct monthly accounting briefings to keep relevant managers informed and engaged.

Capacity building

  • Conduct training sessions and workshops on accounting compliance and minimum requirements.
  • Provide on-the-job support and guidance project and support units to ensure compliance during project implementation.
  • Collaborate with project and support teams to streamline accounting processes.

Additional tasks

  • On request perform any other additional duties assigned by the supervisor(s) to allow the organization to function optimally.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have at least 3 year’s work experience in the field of finance/accounting, preferably in an INGO. Moreover, we also expect the following:

  • University degrees (bachelor’s in Accounting / Finance / Audit).
  • Competence in providing technical guidance and training.
  • Advanced proficiency in Ms Office and BAF.
  • Ukrainian: Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing.
  • English: Intermediate and above is desirable.

We offer:

  • Contract: Open-ended contract upon successful completion of the three-month probation period.
  • Duty station: Kyiv.
  • Start date: 1st August.
  • Salary and conditions in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for DRC National Staff.
